data team topologies

there’s a team that they created an entire team that was just for solving critical business problems and so just for the important things this team exists it’s an analytical team it’s almost like a consultancy team and you are just about solving the problems that we know matters and they did that and they distinctly separated it from bi and data engineering which they see as enabling functions right you take instead of having 10 people doing analytics and all all them are building dashboards you take two of them and say okay you’re going to do bi and build traditional dashboards and and that if you if you have to and then you take everyone else and you say right we’re focused on the things that really really matter (View Highlight)

data team vision and mission

it’s a small Central team and there’s embedded analysts within the organization around these different teams and what the leader of the central data team does is he goes to each of these teams and department heads and says you know hey marketing I think that you should be using data at at a level five at a very high level your area really would benefit from using data really well but you’re currently using it at a level three and here’s how you can get from three to five and he’s almost acting it’s exactly like a consultant basically if you can imagine that coming in and saying I know how to get you from A to B (View Highlight)
