In the years since, hundreds of books and papers have been published on data modeling, and practitioners have accumulated a wealth of experience. So we should be well down the track towards replacing arbitrariness with soundly-based rules and guidelines. This concept of applying human nature to a discipline and showing the “mind game” under the discipline can define a field of study. In fact, I take a break from typing this paragraph and walk to my bookshelf, where I see “mind game” books in other disciplines, all, interestingly, written in the 1970s (View Highlight)
Role specialization means that as companies grow, there are fewer and fewer people who know everything, and more and more people who just know their specialty. A business person who knew the entire order and fulfillment process fifteen years ago might only be required to know the order-to-cash process today. As a result, few people know the “big picture” today, causing communication issues sometimes even within the same department. (View Highlight)
